Our annual New Year’s tour is back and we are headed to Lisbon!!

Join us as we discover the beauty and grandeur of Portugal’s capital city. During our time in Lisbon we will have the opportunity to visit the Royal Palace at Sintra, National Tile Museum, Belem Tower, the Jeronimos Monastery, and wander the cobblestone streets of the Moorish Alfama.

We have planned excursions to the Shrine at Fatima and the wonderful walled city of Obidos. Plus seeing Nazare and Balalba.

London Pub Crawl 2023

While in London we will be taking a Fuller’s Brewery tour with a tasting followed by a walk along the Thames to enjoy the various local pubs in the Hammersmith area. During one of our walking tours we will cross Tower Bridge to visit the Borough Market and the many pubs surrounding this iconic area of London.

We start our journey in beautiful and historic Amsterdam. This fabulous city has earned the well deserved reputation as the playground of Europe. We will be visiting during prime Tulip Season. Our tour takes us to the Anne Frank House, the Royal Palace, explore the Rijksmuseum with its collection of Rembrandt and Van Gogh paintings, look at the tulips in the Bloemenmarkt, take a Canal Boat tour, and visit the Heineken Brewery.

We then head to Brussels, the capital city of both Belgium and the European Union. Join us as we visit this most beautiful of European cities and see the ancient Guild Halls in the Grand Place, the fabulous Royal Museum, and a Gothic Town Hall dating back to the 1400’s. Brussels is famous for food especially, chocolate, waffles, mussels, fries, and of course the many varieties of beer!

Included is a full day tour to Bruges. This fairytale medieval town with its picturesque cobbled lanes, dreamy canals, and historic churches is a must when in Belgium.

Amalfi Coast, Naples, & Rome 2023

We have planned a full day tour to Capri and then two nights in Naples. Our hotel is located right on the Bay of Naples with a breathtaking view of the Castel dell’Ovo. A full day city tour of Naples with stops along the way to sample the pastries and of course, time for a Neopolitan Pizza lunch.

A bonus to this tour is two added nights in Rome. We will get the opportunity to visit the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, The Pantheon, and Piazza Narvonna.

Machu Picchu, Peru, & Lake Titicaca

Now is the time to visit Machu Picchu, one of the most mysterious and beautiful places on earth. The last stronghold of the Incas. Upon arrival in Peru we will transfer to the Sacred Valley and begin our tour with a visit to the local market at Pisac and the ancient Incan city of Ollantaytambo. Our tour continues with visits to the town of Chincheros, the Maras Salt Mines and Moray Circular Agricultural site.

We then go by train to Machu Picchu. Upon arrival we will take a bus up the mountain to Machu Picchu for our guided tour. We have included a second admission to the park the next morning so you can explore it again at our leisure or for the adventurous who can get to the top and watch the sun rise through the Sun Gate on the Inca Trail.

Our next stop is to the capital city of Cuzco. Our tour of Cuzco will feature both Inca and modern sites including the Inca Sun Temple, San Blas Church, Cathedral, Cuzco farmer’s market, and Sacsayhuamán.

No trip to Peru is complete without seeing Lake Titicaca, one of the more amazing sights on the planet. Lake Titicaca is the highest commercially navigable lake in the world. Our schedule includes a boat trip to the floating islands. These islands are unique in every way. They are made from the totora reeds which grow along the shore. A visit to Taquile island in the middle of the lake which is home to some of the finest wool weavers in South America. We have arranged for lunch on the island and a demonstration.

The tour finishes in Lima with a city tour including a visit to Casa Aliaga. A planned dinner at a restaurant on the Pacific before heading to the airport and our trip home.

Summertime in Iceland 2023

Iceland is not just about the ice! This spectacular Island in the North Atlantic, is surely one of nature’s most unique creations; it is a country of extreme geological contrasts. Widely known as “The Land of Fire and Ice” Iceland boasts some of the largest glaciers in Europe and some of the world’s most active volcanoes. Iceland is also the land of light with long summer days with nearly 24-hours of sunshine. Here you find endless lava fields, ice-age relic glaciers, black sand beaches, bubbling mud-ponds and dramatically erupting geysers, all within a short drive from your comfortable hotel. Iceland is also a home to a progressive and peaceful nation that has formed a modern society where freedom and equality are the most important qualities.

Combine the unearthly nature, the short distance from the USA and some of the friendliest people in Europe and you have a recipe for a memorable journey!

Athens, Mykonos, Santorini

This is some of the most beautiful scenery ever created and contains an amazing culture, wonderful sightseeing, great food & wine, and beautiful scenery.

We then head by high speed ferry to Santorini, which many believe to be the most beautiful of the Greek islands. The two main villages of Fira and Oia  were created when a volcano erupted and left a caldera that offers views that are nothing short of spectacular. Our resort has everything that we could want and more. Santorini offers archeological sites, black beaches, water related activities of all kinds, great local wines, and some excellent Greek restaurants.

Edible Sicily 2023

Over the years many of you have asked about a tour to the gastronomy of Sicily. We have now got it done and we are ready to go. This tour begins in Marsala, ends in Palermo, and provides views of some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. The area of northwest Sicily simply has the finest food that Italy has to offer.

We begin in beautiful Marsala where we are immediately immersed in the food and wine culture of the region.These wines are simply fabulous and mostly unknown here in the United States. The olive oil produced here is the best in the world. Over our three days in Marsala we will taste various local food, wine, and deserts.

Our tour then heads into Palermo for us to experience this vibrant city. A walking tour of the Mercato del Capo with tastings at various vendors, plus we learn how to make (and enjoy)  the Cannolo Siciliano, and finish up with a cup of Granita de Cafe. A full day food experience is included where we have a cooking class with a local chef followed by a wine tasting with local deserts. This tour is exactly what a Foodie is looking to experience.

Israel, Jordan, Petra 2023

Mike’s Guiding Light has wanted to plan a tour to Israel and Petra for some time but something has always sidetracked us. Now with time for planning I have taken the best of all our previous trips and have incorporated them into a spectacular and secure journey to where all western thought and belief originates.

We will be visiting all of Israel including holy sites of all religions as well as Jerash, Petra (one of the new Seven Wonders of the World) and the Wadi Rum in Jordan. We have built in visits to Roman sites, a float in the Dead Sea, a jeep ride through the Wadi Rum and much more. We will be fully escorted both in Israel and Jordan.
